Chiggiato SpA is a logistics service provider specialising in transport and warehousing for sectors such as pharmaceuticals, fashion and high-value goods. Founded in 1972 and based in Piombino Dese (Padua), the business stands out for its modern fleet of temperature-controlled vehicles and its commitment to safety throughout the supply chain.

Italian third-party logistics (3PL) provider Chiggiato SpA has taken another step in digitally transforming its supply chain by deploying Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system. The software is enhanced with the Yard Management System, WMS for 3PL and 3PL Billing modules, increasing the business’s capabilities as a pharma logistics specialist.

In its Padua facility, equipped with seismic-resistant pallet racking from Mecalux, Chiggiato houses packaging materials for the pharmaceutical industry. The company receives and stores products, subsequently shipping them via its fleet of temperature-controlled vehicles. The 3PL’s top priorities are guaranteeing batch traceability, monitoring expiry dates and meeting applicable standards.

Scalability and business growth

Chiggiato implemented Easy WMS to oversee multiple warehouses effectively. The Mecalux software has allowed the 3PL to centralise its resources. Currently, the system supervises operations in the main logistics centre in Padua and an external warehouse, and will soon be installed in a third facility under construction.

“Easy WMS gives us the flexibility we need to grow. The system is ready to integrate with our clients’ ERP software and coordinate new warehouses as they join our network,” says Mura.

The company has structured its operations around the dispatch of full pallets, while also handling sample picking for clients’ quality control checks. Every product movement is logged in Easy WMS in real time, ensuring traceability and service reliability.

Advanced modules for 3PL logistics

Chiggiato’s digitalisation strategy goes beyond Easy WMS. It incorporates three additional solutions designed to enhance its role as a 3PL provider and enable it to meet the stringent requirements of its pharmaceutical clients:

• Yard Management System: schedules loading and unloading slots and automatically assigns docks. The module facilitates communication between drivers and warehouse operators to avoid congestion and maintain smooth goods flow.
• WMS for 3PL: allows each client to access inventory information and monitor items, batches and expiry dates.
• 3PL Billing: records all warehouse processes, associates them with a cost and stock owner and generates detailed service reports for each client.

“With the WMS for 3PL and 3PL Billing modules, we provide transparent service to the companies that rely on us. Meanwhile, Yard Management System has enabled us to coordinate and streamline goods inflows and outflows,” says Mura.
