For more than 30 years, Impuls Domžale has been synonymous with quality and punctuality. The distributor supplies food products to public institutions throughout Slovenia, including nurseries, schools, hospitals and retirement homes. Over time, Impuls Domžale has earned the trust of some of the most reputable companies in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market while developing a portfolio of its own brands. It has even ventured into e-commerce with its online store Zoja, which specialises in healthy foods for people with dietary allergies.
To handle a growing volume of goods, Impuls Domžale turned to Špica, an expert in digital supply chain solutions. Špica recommended implementing Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system in the Domžale facility to coordinate increasing numbers of products and multichannel orders without raising the risk of human error.
Located near Ljubljana, the warehouse holds 2,000 SKUs distributed across two floors. The upper level houses dietetic products.
Before deploying Easy WMS, Impuls Domžale managed goods receipt, inbound inspection and inventory control manually. With Mecalux’s software, the organisation has gained greater process visibility, allowing it to scale its business appropriately and plan more accurately. Now, all warehouse operations are tracked through the system — from FEFO-based order picking to dispatches and returns.
An end-to-end solution
Mecalux’s software has streamlined Impuls Domžale’s multichannel order fulfilment, drastically reducing errors. Since its implementation, orders placed before 10:00 a.m. are delivered the following morning.
As goods are received, Easy WMS uses barcode scanning to check expiry dates. Operators then collect all dietetic products simultaneously and move them to the ground floor of the warehouse. There, they continue picking in the general, chilled, frozen and sensitive food areas. Thanks to this organisation, by the next morning, Impuls Domžale can load all daily orders onto vans bound for different routes. Replenishments are triggered automatically in parallel with picking. This ensures constant product availability, with every item identified by barcode.
Mecalux’s software has helped Impuls Domžale adapt to increased demand and workforce fluctuations. “Easy WMS enables us to handle much higher workloads than before, and we’ve seen a significant reduction in errors,” says David Božič, Sales and Logistics Manager at Impuls Domžale. Božič emphasises the company’s goal of sustained growth, noting: “Digitalisation is essential to eliminate inefficiencies in FMCG logistics.”
