The dog chew producer modernises its logistics operations with software and storage solutions

Coucour will optimise the end-to-end management of its dog treats, from artisanal production through to distribution across Europe. The company will partner with Mecalux to deploy Easy WMS software in its Denderleeuw (Belgium) warehouse. Moreover, Mecalux will install three storage systems providing a capacity of more than 2,000 pallets: the semi-automated Pallet Shuttle, pallet racks and drive-in racking.
“As our business grows, we need logistics operations that align with our production standards. Our star product is cheese bones made from a traditional Himalayan recipe using grass-fed cow’s milk. They are then processed through careful pressing and drying, which requires very rigorous monitoring,” say Coucour representatives. “Easy WMS will help us streamline warehouse operations and enhance product traceability.”
Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) collect pallets from Coucour’s production lines and transport them to the warehouse autonomously. Mecalux’s Easy WMS software will integrate with Coucour’s AGV management system, allowing the company to anticipate and oversee the receipt of the dog cheese bones. The system will also record all associated information for each pallet, including batch number, manufacture date and expiry date.
In addition, Mecalux will implement a radiofrequency identification (RFID) system to automate data capture and minimise errors during goods receipt and stock control processes. This high level of supervision will ensure full traceability — a key requirement for a business specialising in low-lactose, additive-free treats rich in protein and calcium for dogs of all sizes.
Mecalux’s storage systems will support the various stages of Coucour’s production and logistics processes. “Efficient organisation of our natural, healthy dog treats will improve productivity and the reliability of our supply chain,” say company representatives. In the drying area, for example, the semi-automated Pallet Shuttle will be installed. This solution uses electric shuttles to automate pallet loading and unloading from the racking. It will enable Coucour to manage semi-finished products according to the FIFO (first in, first out) strategy, ensuring optimal rotation during this critical production phase.
Coucour: Healthy, natural dog treats
Founded in Denderleeuw (Belgium), Coucour specialises in manufacturing dog snacks made from natural ingredients. Its flagship product is chewable cheese bones based on a traditional Himalayan recipe. Produced artisanally, they are made from grass-fed cow’s milk transformed into cheese, then pressed and dried at ambient temperature before being cut into different sizes. These treats are low in lactose, additive-free and rich in protein and calcium, offering long-lasting enjoyment for dogs of all sizes while naturally supporting dental hygiene.
